Sewing Machines Received with Gratitude

June 27th. We (Gerrit and Celeste) left this morning with 3 workers from Rwanda Prison Fellowship for Kageyo Village near Kibungo, on the way to the Tanzania border. Gerrit first visited this Reconciliation Village in April (where genocide victims and perpetrators work and live side by side) and was told that the purchase and use of sewing machines could change the lives of these people who have nothing. The 3.5 hour trip to the village was an adventure in itself: competing for space on the narrow, winding roads, with goats, children alongside the road, taxis in various forms, bicycles loaded…

Celeste Writes – Sunday Celebration!

June 26th. Sunday. This morning, we were picked up early to go to the church where Gerrit would preach (Eglise Vivante in Kabuga). Lovely drive and I saw more of the country side. We were welcomed so warmly in a large church with mud floors and where part of the walls are made with poles and  fabric.  They covered the floor for the first four rows with banana leaves so that our shoes would not get muddy. The different choirs sang and they also sang in English.  After warm welcomes, greetings from IAC and Colorado and South Africa and introductions….

Healing the Wounds of Ethnic Trauma

June 19 in Kabuga, Rwanda: Heaven Rejoices over one sinner repenting Rwanda has become like a second home to me as this is my fourth month-long visit since August 2010.  I know so many people here and new ones are added to my contact list every day.
